I Am Archa

Novel in verse Middle grade Hachette India

Unniarcha is the brave and fiery daughter of a famous master of Kalaripayattu, an ancient martial art. But in her world, only boys are meant to be warriors and fight duels. Slowly, she begins to give up on her dream of becoming a warrior like her father.

Then trouble arrives. An embittered cousin challenges her sick father to a dangerous contest. Desperate and alone, Unniarcha soon discovers something surprising — that she is more than just the daughter of a great warrior.

"Ranjeeta Raam reimagines a figure drawn from cultural memory and renders her vividly human. Archa is restless, resolute and achingly real." Shashi Tharoor · author & Member of Parliament
"A blazing, imaginative and utterly delightful retelling of a centuries-old tale." Manu S. Pillai · author & historian

About the author

The economy of words, the abundance of heart.

Ranjeeta is an Indian writer who grew up in a small town in Kerala, South India. She worked in different areas of writing before leaving her last job as a scriptwriter to become a full-time novelist. She loves verse novels and believes in the economy of words to tell a powerful story..

She writes MG and upper MG. Writing brought her close to her culture, and she is now very keen to bring out those aspects of it that the world knows very little of. Culture, environment, social awareness, animal welfare, and empathy are some things very close to her heart and she hopes to raise awareness about these in her kid readers. She is currently based in Dubai with her husband, two daughters, and cats.
